68 social housing units projected for Chateauguay

The Chateauguay Municipal Housing Office (OMH) foresees building 68 social housing units in this city.

The units will see the day on Principale street. They will be grafted to a triplex that the group foresees acquiring in the sector of Leonie Paradis Place where a Low Cost Housing collection is already a part of its building ensemble. The new addition consists of a $10 million investment.

Chateauguay Mayoress Nathalie Simon is delighted with the news. ``This is going to permit several persons to breathe more easily. We notice that there are more and more people who spend from 30 to 35% of their revenue on their dwelling when the norm is 25%,``she notes.

The 82 cities which comprise the Montreal Metropolitan Community (CCM) must pay a share to the CCM for social housing, whether or not they have one on their territory. In turn, the municipalities which have one receive financial support from the CCM. And they collect taxes linked to buildings, the Mayoress reminds.
