«Ça me touche.

Student benefits from educational field trip thanks to good Samaritan

Michel Thibault  Translation Dan Rosenburg A pupil from Harmony Elementary School in Chateauguay who was about to be deprived of an educational event because his mother had not completely paid the annual service fees to the establishment will finally get to participate in it. A few minutes after the publication of an article on the subject on Le Soleil du Chateauguay’s website on February 16, a reader came forward to enable the mother, Jasmine Carter, to settle her situation with the school. ‘’That touches me. I am doing this because, for me, all the children must have the same chances regardless of their parents’ (financial) situation,’’ the good Samaritan, who preferred to remain anonymous, confided to Le Soleil. Her gesture made some people happy. ‘’I am very happy and so is my son,’’ Carter appreciated. ‘’There are no words to express to what point I am grateful. She is my earth angel.’’ Carter had contacted Le Soleil to deplore the fact that her eight-year-old son was to be excluded from an educational field trip because she had not entirely paid her annual fees to the school. The lady had explained that she had made arrangements with the school to pay the balance in several instalments and that she respected the time lines. She found it unjust that her child would be deprived of the outing under the circumstances. She owed the establishment a balance of $219 at that time. Rob Buttars, the director general of the New Frontiers School Board, had indicated that the rule was the same for everyone and that it had been approved by the school’s governing board, composed of parents and staff members.
