The Grey-Nuns’ bridge that permits access to Ile St.-Bernard will soon be a worksite. Translation Dan Rosenburg The Chateauguay municipal council has granted a contract to repair the bridge to the Interlag Construction company from St. Leonard at the July public council meeting. The enterprise deposited an offer to do the work for the amount of $410,665, which turned out to be the lowest bid to conform. The City is alone to pay the bill. It adopted a loan bylaw to go ahead with the project. Traffic disrupted The start of the works is foreseen for Monday, August 24. The work will last until the end of October. During the repairs, traffic will be alternating in one lane in each direction. Temporary traffic lights will give the right of passage to users one at a time. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use the bridge but the sidewalk would be inaccessible during certain periods, said Lucie Lamoureux, special adviser to the City of Chateauguay’s director general. “As a consequence, there will have to be a sharing of the roadway,” she emphasized. “The works are spread out over several weeks, with the traffic lights permitting alternation, remaining in place on weekends when the works will be stopped,” Lamoureux informs.
