After a year in “reverse” approach due to the pandemic, the Santa Claus parade will return in its traditional form on Saturday, December 4 in Châteauguay. The floats and animated characters will parade on Boulevard D’Anjou before reaching the Raymond-Laberge library.

The parade gets underway at 6:45 p.m. in front of Saint-Joachim Church on Boul. D’Youville. The procession will cross the Laberge bridge and then wend its way down D’Anjou and Maple boulevards.

In order to avoid a crowd, “spectators are asked to find spots all along the parade route on Boulevard D’Anjou,” the City said in a statement. Masking and physical distancing of at least one metre between each family bubble are highly recommended.

In 2020, due to the pandemic, Châteauguay proposed an inverted parade in which citizens were invited to drive along Salaberry Boulevard where floats and festive figures awaited them. Motorists had to be patient with the popularity of the event.

Road closures

This event will result in the closure of parts of Youville, D’Anjou and Maple boulevards, as well as Main Street (rue Principale) during the evening. The City specifies that no parking will be allowed at Saint-Joachim Church, Marguerite-Bourgeois school nor at City Hall during closing hours.

Call for volunteers

“Holding an event of this magnitude represents a huge organizational challenge and would not be possible without the valuable contribution of volunteers,” the municipality assured. Those interested in “wanting to have a front-row seat to the event while at the same time getting involved to ensure its success” can sign up by contacting Chloé Provost at chloe.provost@ville.chateauguay.qc.ca or calling 450 698-3129.

Holiday lighting contest

To give the city a bright and festive ambiance, the City of Châteauguay is organizing the Châteauguay illuminée! contest. Prizes will be given to the most beautifully lit homes and to the business whose light display stands out the most. For information and to sign up online, visit ville.chateauguay.qc.ca/en/noel-2021.
