“Several types of panels will be installed: identification panels at each site, arrows indicating the direction to follow, panels showcasing the entire trail as well as interpretative panels . A promotional aspect is also anticipated so that the population can become better acquainted with the shoreline trail,” explained Félix Blackburn, Director General of SCABRIC.

These new markings will showcase the shoreline trail which extends to the American border and includes 15 points of access to the river (12 docks and 3 natural shoreline entries). In Sainte-Martine, the public can discover a natural launch area as well as a dock near DuPont Street and at Paul-Léveillé Park. In Mercier, a public access point can be found slightly upstream from the Highway 20 bridge, Mr. Blackburn indicated. Lastly, Chateauguay residents can access the waterways via docks located at Joseph-Laberge, Marcel-Seers and de la Commune Parks.

Mr. Blackburn explained that funding, which comes from the Programme Affluents Maritime [PAM], du Fonds d’Action Saint-Laurent [FASL] and the Quebec government, will allow pedestrians, cyclists and kayakers easier access to shorelines and waterways. The project is expected to be completed by March 2023, according to Mr. Blackburn.
