Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier announced on Friday the closure to the public of City of Chateauguay buildings. This move was to limit the spreading COVID-19. Translation Dan Rosenburg ’’We are closing the access to all City offices,’’ Routhier said. ‘’That includes the Sportplex, the Multisport Centre, the library, the public works department and City Hall,’’ the Mayor emphasized in an interview with the Chateauguay Soleil. Two buildings remain accessible: the municipal court and the police station. That is to enable the citizens to pay their fines, for example, the Mayor specified. Acess of the public to these places is controlled, he reminded. The order does not affect municipal employees, who can continue to work at their desks and workshops.

However, all telephone and online services remain in operation. Châteauguois are therefore invited to use the online services, the B-CITI query platform and to contact citizen services by telephone at 450 698-3000.

Activities initiated by the City, including shows, courses and workshops, are also cancelled.

Municipal buildings include :

  • City Hall (5 D'Youville Blvd.)
  • Raymond-Laberge Library (25 Maple Blvd.)
  • G.-P.-Vanier Cultural Centre (15 Maple Blvd.)
  • Sportplex of the Régie Beau-Château (195 Brisebois Blvd.)
  • Public Works Building (220 Industriel Blvd.)
  • Multi-Sport Centre (255 Brisebois Blvd.)

PREVENTION

Proper hygiene measures are recommended for everyone:

  • Wash your hands often with warm running water and scrub with soap for at least 20 seconds.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if you do not have soap and water.
  • Follow hygiene rules when you cough or sneeze: Cover your mouth and nose with your arm to reduce the spreading of germs. If you use tissues, throw them in the trash as soon as possible and wash your hands afterwards.
  • Avoid visiting people in hospital or in long-term care facilities for 14 days after returning from a foreign country or if you are ill.
  • Avoid direct contact when greeting someone, such as shaking hands, and use alternative types of greetings instead.

Masks are not an effective protection tool for the general public. However, their use is recommended for patients suspected of having an infection and for the health professionals caring for them.

SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT

The main symptoms of COVID-19 are as follows:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing

Symptoms may be mild (similar to a cold) or more severe (such as those associated with pneumonia, pulmonary insufficiency or renal failure).

In rare cases, the illness may lead to death. People most at risk of complications are immunocompromised people, those with chronic diseases and the elderly.
