Prior to this, players from Léry and Châteauguay were part of the Association de Baseball Mineur du Suroît.
Châteauguay’s new association alone will have 250 registrations this year and the Suroît association will have about 200, informed Alexandre Messier, The Châteauguay Association’s Technical Director. “We had so many registrations, it is mainly for administration purposes that we subdivided into two associations,” he explained. The number of players has been on the rise the last 5 years or so, Mr. Messier noted.
The new association has about sixty 6- and 7-year-old children at the RallyCap and novice levels as well as about 15 teams from atom to midget.
The Red Sox will continue to play against Suroît teams, namely Beauharnois, Mercier and Sainte-Martine. For their par the Cubs will play against teams from the West Island, Valleyfield and Coteau-du-Lac who are part of the Ligue de Baseball du Lac Saint-Louis.
