The work to build Châteauguay’s “Maison des Aînés” has begun. The Minister responsible for Seniors and Informal Caregivers, Ms. Marguerite Blais, and the MNA representing Châteauguay, MarieChantal Chassé, made the announcement on December 1st. Located on Principale Street, the building will offer 120 private rooms, each with adapted bathrooms and showers. The formula is meant to offer a more “human dimension”. “It is part of a major transformation of residences and long-term health-care facilities,” the Minister and MNA said in a press release. “This new type of accommodation has been completely redesigned to be more reminiscent of a home and to promote human contact as well as a more active lifestyle, including through access to landscaped outdoor spaces and indoor installations that are better adapted to the needs of residents and their loved ones. The security aspect of the premises is also of particular note, especially in terms of the application of infection prevention and control measures in the event of an outbreak,” they went on to say. The residence is made up of ten “living units” each with 12 spaces. 96 spaces will be reserved for seniors and 24 others will be for adults with special needs. “The number of spaces was established through a rigorous process, cross-referencing the most recent data from the housing wait lists with projections for the number of additional spaces that will be required in the coming years as the population ages,” the elected officials assured. The project represents a $61.6M investment which is entirely assumed by the Government of Quebec. The work is slated for completion by the fall of 2022. The Société Québécoise des Infrastructures is the acting project manager. (Translation Amanda Bennett)
