COVID-19 : 10 important things to know

The governments of Canada and Quebec have adopted some measures without precedent for fighting against the coronavirus pandemic. Among others, the province has been put on pause. Here are 10 important measures to keep in mind.   1. Gatherings are forbidden indoors as well as outdoors. Police officers are authorized to intervene. They recommend the sensitization but those who do not understand the message expose themselves to fines ranging from $1,000 to $6,000.
 
  1. Returning travellers to the country must isolate themselves for 14 days. Failure to respect this order is liable to a fine reaching up to $1 million and three years in prison.

  1. A COVID-19 screening clinic has opened its doors in Chateauguay. Tests are done by appointment only. If need be, telephone 1-877-644-4545.
 
  1. The Autoroute 30 tollbooth is suspended. It’s a question of eliminating the exchange of money that could serve as a conveyance for the coronavirus.
 
  1. All non-essential businesses have had to close down. Those that offer emergency services must respect the order of social distancing and increased hygiene. All enterprises can nevertheless transact business on-line.
 
  1. People aged 70 and over must stay home because the risks of complication of the COVID-19 are greater in their case.
 
  1. People have the right to walk outside by respecting the order of social distancing and keeping two metres away from the nearest person. This exercise is moreover recommended by Premier Francois Legault.
 
  1. The crisis has a major impact on the people’s wallets and their morale. Several find themselves isolated. To support them, Quebec is relying on community groups. It is encouraging citizens under the age of 70 who are healthy and available to do volunteer work.
