Tenants of residential buildings with multiple units will soon be able to cool off in new splash pads in Châteauguay during heat waves. On February 15, Châteauguay’s city council awarded a $1.9M contract to Vortex International to equip the parks. As justification for the cost which “might seem high”, councillor Mike Gendron explained that it’s not just two or three modules. “They will be splash parks with five or six modules,” he specified. He indicated that demolishing current installations and installing new pumping systems were also part of the equation. The four parks were selected to accommodate occupants of residential buildings who don’t have access to a pool. We targeted sectors in which there are buildings belonging to the Office Municipal d’Habitation, low-cost housing units and apartment buildings. Those are the people who really need it,” explained Mike Gendron. He noted that there is already a splash park in Châteauguay. “Everyone is moving in that direction,” he mentioned. Selected Parks Alfred-Dorais Park will benefit from the investment. It is already outfitted with functional water games, but they are coming to the end of their useful life, explained Stéphanie Gosselin, spokesperson for the City of Châteauguay. The current modules will remain there and a new section will be created. For its part, Philippe-Bonneau park’s installations will be replaced with new ones. Elmridge and Vincent Parks will complete the quartet of selected sites. International Vortex defines itself as a “world-class leader” on its website. Its products are found in parks, hotels and resorts all over the planet. (Translation Amanda Bennett)
