Ile St. Bernard reopens

The paths of Ile St. Bernard and the Fernand Seguin Ecological Centre are once again accessible since Wednesday, June 3. The City of Chateauguay and Heritage St. Bernard have however established certain regulations for respecting the sanitary constraints required by the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of accessible parking spaces has been established at 50 for the moment. “In order to give an advantage to the people of Chateauguay, about 50 cyclists and pedestrians will also be able to again access to the territory,” specifies Heritage St. Bernard in a communique. “A restrained number of people will be admitted at the same time inside the Pavillon de l’ile. to gain entry to the Marguerite d’Youville wildlife refuge and to the bathrooms.” Patrollers will be at the site to see that the orders are respected. “People must be patient, because the access to the island being limited, we foresee that the site will fill up rapidly during the beautiful days ahead,” explains Heritage St. Bernard director general Luc L’Ecuyer, “Also, if the people can postpone their visit until a bit later in the summer, we recommend it.” The group is also asking the people to plan short visits to offer the chance to other visitors to frequent the site. On the island, the mill, staircase and grotto will remain closed. The island’s cafe is not open to the public, but offers an on-line menu. The non-motorized boat descent will not be accessible. Fernand Seguin Ecological Centre The Ecological Centre’s paths will again be accessible. but the welcoming chalet is closed until further notice. An outdoor toilet is available for visitors. Some modifications have been made to certain sections of paths to make distancing easier.
