Lawyer Routhier confirms mayoralty candidacy

Lawyer Pierre-Paul Routhier has confirmed that he will solicit the mayoralty of Chateauguay in the November elections. He will be accompanied by a team of eight candidates for posts on the municipal council.

His team, which is being officially named « Equipe Routhier Team, » will be composed of four independants who currently serve on council : Marcel Deschamps, Mike Gendron, Barry Doyle and Lucie Laberge. Four newcomers on the team are Linda Belanger, Eric Allard, Michel Enault and Eric Corbeil.

Cap on economy

In a communique disclosing the names of his team members, Routhier says he wants to « quickly revive the local economy, which has been heavily abused in recent years.  Chateauguay is full of assets to distinguish itself, including Autoroute 30 and an Industrial Park that is full of potential. Ile St. Bernard also constitutes a jewel which must be developed as much here as outside the city. We are going to put in place some measures to generate activity here, » he vows. He also criticizes the City's debt, which he claims « has practically doubled in eight years. »

However, the aspiring mayor refuses to denigrate the work accomplished by outgoing Mayoress Nathalie Simon. « I think that she has done the most she could with her team. But after eight years, we need a change. It's important, in my opinion, to clear the board after two mandates to continue to advance, » he believes.

Freedom of members

Members of Equipe Routhier Team will retain a certain amount of freedom of speech, their chief says. « We don't all have the same ideas. But we share the same basic vision regarding the City's future. And I hope that the members of my team can continue to state their opinion, regardless of the stakes. We don't want a rigid party line nor any secrets between us and the citizens. That's the basis of the transparency we wish for a municipal administration, » he conveys.

Curriculum

Routhier has been living in Chateauguay for 40 years. He was the owner of a transport industry, Trans-Canada Movers, for several years. He holds a baccalaureate in business administration and obtained a baccalaureate in law following a return to his studies at the age of 44. He has been practising law in Chateauguay since 2002. The mayoral candidate is not in his first electoral experience. He was a federal candidate for the Conservative Party in 2008 when he ran against Bloc Quebecois candidate Carole Freeman.
