Le train de banlieue l'option la plus «envisageable», selon le député Moreau

(English follows) Après analyse, «l’option la plus envisageable reste celle du train de banlieue», fait part le député Pierre Moreau, pour diversifier l'offre de transport en commun dans la région de Châteauguay.

Ferry (traversier), aéroglisseur, système de téléphériques sont quelques options qui ont été évaluées par le gouvernement provincial, indique-t-il.

Actuellement, les gens de la région ont peu d’alternatives, à part l’autobus et la voiture, tous deux soumis aux aléas de la route et du pont Honoré-Mercier. Selon M. Moreau, l’aspect géographique de Châteauguay jouerait en sa défaveur. «Toutes les options étudiées n’étaient pas réalisables, à cause, notamment, de la profondeur du fleuve dans le secteur (pour le traversier) ou du dégagement nécessaire pour construire un système de téléphériques», expose-t-il.

Le train de banlieue, toutefois, reste la voie la plus prometteuse, considère le politicien. «On devrait continuer de miser sur cette possibilité, dit-il. Il s’agit d’un système de transport extrêmement efficace qui ne coûte pas très cher à aménager. Ceci puisque le train passe déjà par Kahnawake, et qu’il ne suffirait que d’y construire un quai d’embarquement et un stationnement incitatif. De plus, je pense que les gens de Kahnawake sont ouverts à ça» laisse-t-il entendre. Il avoue toutefois ne pas savoir où en sont les discussions dans ce dossier. Discussions qui seraient menées, selon lui, par un regroupement des principaux acteurs en matière de transport (Mobilité Montréal).

Ferry boat, hovercraft, and a cable-car system are a few options that have been evaluated by the provincial government to diversify the offering of public transport in the Chateauguay region, discloses riding MNA Pierre Moreau. But, following analysis, « the most feasible option remains that of the commuter train, » he says.  

Actually, the people of the region have few alternatives, aside from buses and cars, both of which submit themselves to hazards of the road and the Mercier Bridge. According to Moreau, Chateauguay`s geographical aspect would play in its disfavour. « All the options studied were not attainable, notably because of the depth of the river (to cross) in the sector or the clearing necessary to build a cable-car system,`` he explained.
The commuter train, however, remains the most promising option, Moreau considers. ``We should continue to rely on this possibility,`` he says. ``It consists of an extremely efficient transport system which is not expensive to manage.  This is because the train already passes through Kahnawake, and it would be sufficient to construct a boarding quai and a parking lot as an incentive. In addition, I think that the people of Kahnawake would be open to that,`` he let it be known. He admits, however, that he does not know where discussions stand in this matter. Discussions would be held, according to him, by a coming together of the main actors in the transportation file (Mobility Montreal).
