Jean-François Primeau, who until recently was president of the Liberal Association of Châteauguay, is running as a Quebec Liberal Party nomination contestant in the riding of Châteauguay.

Primeau has been involved in the party for several years. He was once a close collaborator and political attaché of former Châteauguay Liberal MNA Jean-Marc Fournier. He now hopes to make the leap as a candidate.

“I deeply believe in the harmonization of economic development with the environment proposed by Dominique Anglade and in the ECO project,” Primeau said. “All businesspeople know the labour shortage is an issue that needs to be tackled much more seriously. This shortage also weakens our public services.” He considers he has acquired “great professional experience, and the constituency needs once again a present MNA who knows how to defend its interests.”

Primeau is a lawyer by profession. He has also worked in school management at the Commission scolaire de la Vallée-des-Tisserands, among others. He has expertise in contract management compliance and was involved with the local Chamber of Commerce. He is currently a board member with the Fondation Gisèle Faubert, whose mission is to build a palliative care home in Mercier.

Asked what he thinks of the fact that half of the Liberal caucus will not run in the next election, the aspiring candidate said it was normal, regardless of political formation, that MNAs decide to leave politics “after loyal service”. “On the other hand, new people arrive with new points of view," he added.

The Liberal Party nomination meeting will take place on Saturday, June 18th. The Party indicated in a press release that people who wish to submit their application to be a candidate in Châteauguay have until June 8th at 5 p.m. to do so.
