Mario Porreca joueur de l’année dans la LFJQ

(Photo courtesy Seized Momentz)[/caption] (Texte de Dan Rosenburg - Adaptation Michel Thibault) Le quart-arrière Mario Porreca, qui a mené les Raiders de Châteauguay à la conquête de la Coupe Joe Pistilli, a été nommé joueur par excellence de l’année 2017 de la Ligue de football junior du Québec. L’honneur lui a été décerné lors du banquet annuel de la LFJQ le samedi 18 novembre au Motel Royal à Longueuil. Porecca a complété 105 passes en 186 tentatives pour un gain total de 2007 verges et 16 touchés durant la saison régulière. Le trophée commémoratif Bob Geary lui a aussi été remis par les invités spéciaux Luc Brodeur-Jordan et Mikael (Mike) Charland, des Alouettes de Montréal. Félicité pour ses performances, le joueur étoile a réagi : «C’était formidable mais c’est un signe de la qualité du jeu de l’équipe. Je conduisais seulement le navire. Nous avions des receveurs incroyables et les meilleurs porteurs de ballon de la ligue.» Deux d’entre eux, le receveur Danny Mancini et le porteur de ballon Nick Findlay, ont été désignés dans l’équipe de rêve de la ligue avec Porecca. Mancini a attrapé 21 passes pour un gain de 616 verges et réussi 7 touchés. Findlay a cumulé 371 verges en 53 courses. Les Raiders Corey Robertson Simms, Sanders Armand, Jeverson Pierre Victor, Serge Pilon et Edwouardo Valme ont aussi été nommés dans l’équipe d’étoiles. Leur coéquipier Brandon Parent obtient le trophée de la recrue de l’année et le botteur Remi Hort celui de joueur de l’année des équipes spéciales. Le groupe d’entraîneurs mené par Allan Ramsay et le coordonnateur de la défensive Derek Durocher a été proclamé équipe de coachs de l’année. Porreca named QJFL player-of-the-year

Dan Rosenburg Mario Porreca, who quarterbacked the Chateauguay Raiders to the Joe Pistilli Trophy in the championship game this campaign, was named player-of-the-year at the Quebec Junior Football League's annual awards banquet at the Motel Royal in Longueuil last Saturday. Porreca, who was also one of eight Raiders named to the league`s All-Star team, completed 105 passes in 186 attempts for 2,007 yards and 16 touchdowns during the regular season. Porreca was thus presented with the Bob Geary Memorial Trophy by special guests Luc Brodeur-Jordan and Mikael (Mike) Charland of the Montreal Alouettes. Congratulated on his achievements this season, Porreca remarked, “Ìt was amazing, but it was more a sign of how the team played. I was just driving the ship. We had incredible receivers and the best running backs in the league.” Two of those, receiver Danny Mancini and running back Nick Findlay, joined Porreca on the dream team. Mancini caught 21 passes for 616 yards and seven touchdowns, while Findlay gained 371 yards on 53 carries. Other Raiders All-Stars included offensive lineman Corey Robertson Simms, defensive lineman Sanders Armand, linebacker Jeverson Pierre Victor and safeties Serge Pilon and Edwouardo Valme. Pilon, who led the Raiders in tackles with 32 and added nine assists, also shone on punt returns with 25 runbacks for 414 yards. Pilon tied Austin Mackay of Ottawa Riders for the Skip Eaman Trophy as the league's Most Valuable Player on defence. Raiders also honoured were Brandon Parent , rookie-of-the-year, and kicker Remi Hort, as special teams player-of-the year. In addition, the Chateauguay coaching contingent, led by head coach Allan Ramsay and defensive co-ordinator Derek Durocher, was proclaimed coaching coaching staff of the year.
