Martin Bécotte will be donning Québec solidaire’s colours in the Châteauguay riding at the October 3rd provincial election. His candidacy was approved by the forty members who were present at the nomination meeting on May 3rd.

“This commitment is the logical continuation of my social and professional involvement for the past 25 years,” he said in a Facebook post. In addition to being at the head of the Fédération régionale des OSBL d'habitation de la Montérégie et de l'Estrie for 13 years, Bécotte is co-founder of the Élan des jeunes organization, as well as Bouge au Max and Cultivons Châteauguay.

He particularly wants to address the housing crisis, one of his party’s priorities.

“With the housing crisis that Quebecers and especially Quebec women are experiencing, we need candidates and elected members of the National Assembly who have Martin's experience to put an end to it,” stated Vincent Marissal, Rosemont MNA with Québec solidaire, at the nomination meeting.

Bécotte also wants to participate in the fight against climate change and seek the “maximum financing amount” for municipalities to reconstruct drinking water infrastructure, he said.

Access to health care is another issue that concerns the candidate. According to him, it is difficult to get treatment in the constituency “even if it has been represented by a Member of the National Assembly for 20 years.”

“We now need a MNA who lives in the riding, whose children go to school [here], whose parents have to struggle to get access to care and who will therefore be able to defend the people of Châteauguay, Mercier, Saint- Isidore and Léry at the National Assembly.”

The riding of Châteauguay is currently represented by Coalition avenir Québec MNA MarieChantal Chassé.
