Metro and Sobeys, who own the IGA brand among others, have used their websites to post the list of grocery stores affected by COVID, either due to infected employees or clients, as instructed by the public health guidelines, Sobeys stated. Translation courtesy Amanda Bennett In a similar message, both chains make it clear that “for the sake of transparency” they will be updating this tracking tool as new cases are identified. However, no personal information about employees will be disclosed. They must also advise public health officials. “As a precautionary measure, we will thoroughly clean and disinfect the establishment in question each time a case is reported.” Metro specified. At the time this article was published on April 8th, none of the two banners’ grocery stores in the Châteauguay and Beauharnois regions were affected. Since mid-March, some fifty cases have been identified throughout the country. Additional Hygiene Measures Given that they remain open as an essential service, grocery stores have increased hygiene measures during the pandemic. They remain nonetheless at risk. In a message sent out on April 7th, the Director of Public Health for Montérégie, Dr. Julie Loslier, asked families to limit outings to the grocery store and pharmacy to one person per family to comply with the social distancing regulations.
