SEXTING is PORN!, police remind

Chateauguay police launched the third edition of their sensitization campaign SEXTING is PORN!, on January 21. Addressing itself to youngsters aged 12-17, the campaign deals with the phenomenon emerging from sexting. «A sexto is a message that is sexual in nature, erotic, pornographic or intimate, accompanied or not by a photo. It can be sent via a texto, by a message application, on a social or other network,’’ the police indicate through a communiqué. During the next three weeks, the parents of six secondary schools on the territory served by the Chateauguay police will receive, via a school establishment attended by their child, a letter informing them about the campaign. In all, close to 5,000 students will be affected by the campaign. Several posters will also be installed on the walls of those schools. Also, each teacher will receive the visit of from the Chateauguay Police socio-community, seconded by the children and the school personnel, as well as by intervenors from the Chateauguay Centre of Aid and the fight against sexual aggression. Moreover, they will be available to meet the children, in complete confidence if the youngsters so desire. ‘’With the resources put at their disposal, the adolescents are equipped not to live through such a situation alone, the police department notes. A campaign with an impact In 2016 and 2017, the Châteauguay police treated about 30 cases of juvenile pornography. Since the campaign was launched in January of 2018, 11 dossiers - including five in 2018 and six in 2019 – were treated.
