The members of the councils of commissioners from the Grandes-Seigneuries and New Frontiers School Boards voted unanimously in favour of this choice after a call for suggestions launched on the respective website platforms of the two organizations. The name of Brenda Milner was retained by a selection committee from among some 335 propositions. ‘’This, considering that the research works of this teacher had positive repercussions and an extraordinary influence on the advancement of the education of children,’’ the CSDGS indicates in a communique. ‘’The Brenda Milner Regional School,’’ its official name, will open next September. It will welcome pupils from 4-21 years old, at the pre-school, primary and secondary levels, who show a profound intellectual deficiency or failing means, with some associated problems. Its construction cost, assumed by the provincial government, is $28.2 million. As of now, the degree of advancement of the works is at 45%, it is indicated in the ‘’Infoworks’’ section of the CSDGS website. Brief biography of Brenda Milner – Born in Manchester, England on July 15,1918. – She settled in Montreal in 1944 and taught psychology at the University of Montreal. – Since 1950, she has been affiliated with the Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University. – She holds over 20 honorary titles, including the Order of Canada, for her research in the function of the brain, and particularly of the memory. ’’It is extremely appropriate to name our new school the Brenda Milner Regional School, not only because of the research and ideas of this great lady on the functioning of the human brain that she has shared with educators and other researchers, but also because she will be celebrating her 101st birthday in July this year. We are impatient to invite Dr. Milner to the official opening of the new school.’’ -David D’Aoust, chairman of the New Frontiers School Board (Translation Dan Rosenburg)
