The speed limit is going to change in most Chateauguay streets during the next few weeks. Translation Dan Rosenburg The maximum will be 40 km/h in all residential streets and 30 km/h on boulevards running beside the Chateauguay River, except in the Haute Riviere agricultural zone. The municipal council adopted the final bylaw to this effect at its public meeting of July 6. The commercial arteries of Principale street, as well as D’Anjou, St. Jean-Baptiste and Rene Levesque boulevards will keep the speed limit at 50 km/h. So will Industrial Blvd. and streets in the Industrial Park. Panels The City has purchased 200 panels to display the new speed limits. This cost the amount of $5,300 from the Signal Services company. Drivers must conform when they are on those thoroughfares. According to the Highway Safety Code, the speed limit is 50 km/h in residential streets and a city that foresees a different limit must indicate it with signs, Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier reminded. Chateauguay must set the model for several other municipalities. “We are late,” said city councillor Mike Gendron who has militated for this measure for several years.  “It’s a question of safety,” he emphasized.
