Quebec Premier François Legault visited Île Saint-Bernard on Thursday afternoon to introduce the Coalition Avenir Québec’s Châteauguay candidate. It’s the current president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Greater Roussillon Marie-Belle Gendron who will be donning the party’s colours at the October election.

Gendron has been the director of Clinique dentaire Châteauguay for nearly 20 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in classical singing interpretation, a graduate diploma in Business Management and leadership training from Concordia University's Leadership Institute. She says politics was not part of her career plan, but she chose to take the leap for the 2022 election.

“The CAQ is for me a real breath of fresh air in the Quebec political landscape. It is a party that listens and knows how to practise self-examination. Mr. Legault’s government leads with and for the people and I completely identify with these values,” she said at the press conference at Manoir D’Youville.

“Marie-Belle is a local girl. […] She is a woman who is brilliant, she is a leader, a unifier and I think that is who we need to succeed MarieChantal [Chassé]”, mentioned Legault.

Local issues

The Premier mentioned a few local issues such as drinking water in Léry, access to public transit along the east-west axis of the region (Châteauguay towards Boucherville) and the lack of schools to respond to the increase in the number of families settling down in the area.

Gendron assured that her political commitment will have two main aspects. “The first pertains to your interests, which I intend to defend with ardour in Quebec. The second relates to my presence on the field. I am committed to being present for you,” the CAQ candidate said.
