The Chateauguay Police Department has solved several cases in the last few days related to vehicle thefts on the South Shore and in Montreal. Arrests were made during these operations.

The Police Department indicated that private vehicle thefts have been on the rise in the region since the beginning of the year 2022 and that close to 70 vehicle theft cases have already been processed. Police officers and investigators in Chateauguay have carried out numerous operations since the beginning of September in order to curb this phenomenon.

Destined for Export
“On September 14, our police officers found three Honda CR-Vs reported stolen in Longueuil and Montreal. After receiving confidential information, the vehicles were found in a marine container in Châteauguay”, explained CPS officer Erika Grondin.

A few days earlier, on September 1st, officers were able to trace 2020 Toyota Highlanders belonging to two Beauharnois residents in Montreal thanks to GPS tracking systems installed on the vehicles.

Police investigators then proceeded to search the offices of an import-export company in the Greater Montreal area,” said Constable Grondin. “The two vehicles stolen in Beauharnois were found along with six other automobiles reported stolen by the Montreal Police Department (SPVM). All the vehicles were inside shipping containers bound for overseas,” she said. No arrests have yet been made and the investigation is ongoing, according to the Châteauguay police.

Arrests
Following the theft of a Dodge RAM 2022 reported by a Châteauguay citizen on September 13, investigators arrested an 18-year-old individual in Montreal thanks, once again, to a tracking system installed on the van, Grondin said. The young man was released summarily.

On September 5, after being stopped driving a stolen 2020 Honda CR-V, a juvenile fled on foot. After combing the area, “police quickly located the individual, a 16-year-old male, and arrested him. He was released on a promise to appear at a later date,” concluded the Chateauguay Police Department Community Relations Officer.
