Hydro-Québec will dismantle 40 electrical pylons in Châteauguay from the 120kV Beauharnois-Aqueduct line this fall. This project had to be postponed by one year due to a labour shortage.

Several specialized contractors for the Châteauguay project are currently completing the installation of the 735kV Micoua-Saguenay line in the northern part of the province.

Sébastien Martineau, the Community Relations Advisor for the Estrie and Montérégie regions at Hydro-Québec, does not believe that the workers will be able to come to Châteauguay before September. However, he mentioned that Hydro-Québec will not accept any other contracts that require these specialized contractors in order to meet the dismantlement schedule.

Last fall, a few workers on-site had removed two pylons to accommodate the expansion work at Anna-Laberge Hospital.

Worksite signage

During the work, Hydro-Québec will collaborate with the city to install signage at high-risk areas of the dismantling project. As several bike paths are located near the pylons, Mr. Martineau mentioned that detour routes will need to be established to ensure cyclists’  safety.

Work for the linear park

At the municipal council meeting on May 15th, Mayor Éric Allard stated that the city will not undertake any work in the linear park before the dismantlement of the pylons, as it could damage the future park's infrastructure. It should be noted that Hydro-Québec was tasked with removing this line since it was no longer in use. The state-owned company is now focusing on 315kV lines.
