Thousands of people got to experience the music, colours and flavours of Kahnawake during the Echoes of a Proud Nation Pow wow over the weekend.

The Mohawk community celebrated the 30th anniversary of its traditional Pow wow after a two-year hiatus imposed by the pandemic. Dance and drumming competitions, as well as dozens of food and craft stands were open to the public. The weather didn’t disappoint.

According to Tom Deerhouse, dance, like the Pow wow, uplifts the mind and the spirit. “Everything speaks to life. Energy and being physically fit as much as you can be. Good food, interaction with people, talking and telling stories. Old friends and meeting new friends,” he said.
