The time of watering on odd days for odd addresses and even days for even addresses has come to an end.

The City of Châteauguay has abandoned the formula which had been in effect for decades. This spring, city council adopted a new by-law which is currently in force.
Flowers won’t lose all their petals though- citizens can water their flower beds and gardens using a manually controlled nozzle on a hose at any time. The use of a watering can is also permitted at all times.
The restrictions are aimed at attachments that can function for hours at a time without a human presence. So, the occupants of a building with an even civic number can use their oscillating or automatic sprinkler system or soaker hose on Mondays between 9 pm and midnight. Even addresses can do the same on Tuesdays between the same hours.
Car washing and washing your building are permitted at all times.
Watering new sod is also allowed, provided that you apply for a permit from the city, which is issued at no cost.

Pools
Filling previously installed pools and spas is permitted from 8 am to 5 pm on Wednesdays for even addresses and Fridays for odd ones.
Filling a new pool or spa is allowed during business days. The city requests that the filling be done over a longer period of time and include breaks.

Tips
The city’s website has posted tips for saving drinking water. It also posts a barometer that displays consumption rates according to a colour code: green for “normal” (25,000 to 35,000 m3/day); yellow “acceptable” 35,000 to 40,000 m3 per day); orange for “high” (40,000 to 45,000) and red “excessive” (over 45,000 m3 per day).

Drought
The new by-law also allows the city to use a public notice to suspend watering rights during droughts. When such notices are in effect, it will be “strictly prohibited” to water, with the exception of a handheld watering can. Washing cars, driveways, building walls, as well as filling pools and spas would also be prohibited.
