Élections municipales: Pierre-Paul Routhier lance un défi à Nathalie Simon

(English follows) Le chef du parti Vision Châteauguay-Équipe Routhier Team, Pierre-Paul Routhier, lance un défi à la mairesse sortante Nathalie Simon. Il demande de débattre face à face avec lui sur la question d’intégrité. Nathalie Simon a répondu «adorer les débats», à condition que ceux-ci soient organisés de façon «éthique» et «par une organisation neutre». «Mme Simon fait son cheval de bataille de l’intégrité depuis 2009, a fait valoir M. Routhier aux médias, qu’il avait convoqués en conférence de presse le 11 octobre à son local électoral. «Mais qu’offre-t-elle de concret dans son programme qui vise à rattraper les huit dernières années de mauvaise gestion, a-t-il questionné? Je pense que la situation économique actuelle et la façon d’administrer la ville doivent être discutées dans un face à face. Parce que nous remettons en question son intégrité sur ce point et que les citoyens doivent se faire une meilleure idée de la situation», a-t-il ajouté. L’aspirant maire dit avoir préféré lancer son défi par l’intermédiaire des médias plutôt que de contacter lui-même Mme Simon. «Je ne voulais pas lui parler directement», a-t-il fait valoir sans donner plus de détails. Ensuite questionné sur les coûts et l’organisation d’un tel événement, M. Routhier est encore une fois demeuré vague en disant croire que  «ça ne demandait pas une grande organisation ni une grosse dépense». «On peut l’organiser dans une salle de la Ville ou une école», a-t-il suggéré. Plus assez de temps, selon Nathalie Simon Contactée par le Soleil de Châteauguay le 13 octobre, Nathalie Simon s’est d’abord dite surprise que M. Routhier passe par les médias pour lui lancer ce défi. «Je suis prête à débattre de n’importe quelle question, a-t-elle ensuite répondu. Mais je trouve que, par souci d’équité, il faudrait aussi inviter l’autre candidat à la mairie, M. Brisebois.» Par ailleurs, elle est restée sceptique quant à la possibilité d'organiser un tel événement. Notamment parce qu’il reste moins d’un mois avant les élections, a-t-elle fait valoir. Mais également parce que l’organisation d’un débat doit se faire, selon elle, par une instance neutre, comme un média. «Les débats, j’adore ça. Ça permet aux candidats de faire valoir leur point de vue et d’en débattre de manière encadrée pour faire évoluer ce point de vue. Mais je ne crois pas que c’est aux organisations politiques de les organiser. C’est un non-sens sur le plan éthique. On ne verrait pas le parti conservateur inviter le parti libéral à un débat», illustre-t-elle. (English version)

Municipal elections: Routhier sends challenge to Simon

Pierre-Paul Routhier, chief of the Vision Châteauguay-Équipe Routhier Team, is launching a challenge to outgoing Mayoress Nathalie Simon. He is asking to debate face to face with her on the question of integrity. Simon replied that she « adores debates, » on the condition that they be organized in « ethical » fashion and « by a neutral group. » « Since 2009 Madam Simon is making integrity her top priority, » Routhier told the media, whom he had summoned to a press conference at his electoral office on October 11. « But what concrete thing is she offering in her program that seeks to recapture the past eight years of poor management? » he questioned. « I think that the current economic situation and the way of administrating the city must be discussed face to face, because we are putting in question her integrity on this point and the citizens must be permitted to form a better idea of the situation, » he added. The aspiring mayor says he preferred to launch his challenge through the intermediary of the media rather than contact Simon herself. « I didn't want to talk to her directly, » he said without providing more details. Questioned next on the costs and the organization of such an event, Routhier once again stayed vague by saying he believes « this does not require a great organization nor a big expense. We can hold it in a City hall or a school, » he suggested. But also because the organizing of a debate must be done, according to her, by a neutral authority, such as a member of the media. « I adore debates, » she said. That enables the candidates to state their point of view and to debate it in a manner framed to have this point of view developed. But I don't believe that it's up to political groups to organize them. That would be nonsense on the ethical level.
