The preventive boil water advisory issued by the City of Châteauguay, for two and a half days at the end of January, was caused by a "fluctuation in pressure in the drinking water distribution network," it says.

"When the pressure level drops below a certain threshold, there is an increased risk of external contaminants infiltrating into the City's distribution system which could compromise the water quality," explains Audrey Jacques, head of communications for the City.

As a precaution, the City issued a boil water advisory for its territory as well as for the cities it serves with drinking water, namely: Léry, Mercier, Sainte-Martine, Saint-Isidore, and Saint-Urbain-Premier. Samples were taken and analyzed in an accredited laboratory. "As soon as we received confirmation that the water was safe to drink, we were able to lift the boil water advisory," Ms. Jacques says.
