The 12 days of action to eliminate all forms of violence against women take place every year in Quebec and Canada from November 25th, the - International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women -, to December 6th, the - National Day of Rememberance of the Killing of Polytechnique -. Those days have become an annual tradition of engagement in actions of protest, solidarity, and public education aimed at creating positive and long-lasting change with regards to violence against women. Such transformation depends on a collective change of mentality. Year after year, the Sexual Assault Centre (CALACS) of Châteauguay takes this opportunity to raise awareness about the issue of sexual violence against women. This year, the chosen theme is «Brave any way…Our way», and aims at shedding light at the courage displayed by victims and survivors of sexual violence in their daily lives, be it by waking up every morning in spite of their anxiety, by registering to a self defence class to feel safer or a dance class to reappropriate their bodies, by disclosing to a relative despite their fear of breaking up the family, by denouncing to the police despite their fear of reprisals from the perpetrator, etc. This year, 1500 bookmarks will be distributed in Châteauguay and to the public librairies and Librairies Boyer of our territory and in Kahnawake with the precious collaboration of the Kahnawake Survival School. We are grateful for their solidarity and their active participation in this fight against sexual violence. (Source : CALACS Châtauguay)
