Census 2021 : Châteauguay exceeds the 50,000-resident mark

The City of Châteauguay now has over 50,000 residents. The 2021 census, partially released last week, indicates the municipality has welcomed 2,909 new citizens in the past five years.
The number of Châteauguay residents has gone from 47,906 to 50,815 since 2016, an increase of 6.1%.
In comparison, the provincial average for population growth was 4.1%. The Canadian average, 5.2%.
A few nearby towns have experienced an even greater population increase. In Mercier, the number of inhabitants went from 13,115 to 14,626, an 11.5% increase.
Saint-Isidore’s population has grown by 6.2%, arriving at a total of 2,769 residents in 2021—an addition of 161 people.
Beauharnois has 754 new residents, an increase of 5.9%, reaching a total of 13,638 people in 2021.
Sainte-Martine has 203 new citizens, with a total of 5,664 in 2021 (up 3.7%).
Léry now has 2,390 residents, or 72 new ones (up 3.1%).
