When it comes to collecting taxes, the City of Châteauguay will be accommodating with citizens who are in a tight spot. Like last year’s efforts to offer latitude during a pandemic, during the January 25th council meeting, city council voted not to impose any interest or penalties for late tax payments given that COVID-19 is still having an impact on many people’s budgets. In order to benefit from this reprieve, citizens must not have an outstanding balance from previous years. “The privilege is only being offered to those whose payments are up to date,” specified Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier. He nonetheless urged affected citizens to contact the city to make arrangements. “We don’t want you to lose your home. We will do everything we can to make arrangements,” he assured.
