Châteauguay’s city council expressed its support for the Ukranian community by hoisting the country’s flag alongside those of Quebec, Canada and the City of Châteauguay during the March public assembly meeting.

“We wanted to express our support and solicitude toward the Ukranian community, both those experiencing bombing overseas and those living here with family or loved ones in Ukraine,” mentioned Mayor Eric Allard at the start of the March 14th meeting.

He also had a special thought for the members of the Russian community who disapprove of the acts of aggression toward Ukraine. “We know that they are many. In Châteauguay, citizens of Russians and Ukranian descent respectfully and harmoniously cross paths with one another every day. I believe that this kind of cohabitation can coexist elsewhere,” Mr. Allard said.

The city flew its flags, which now include an Ukrainian flag, at half mast at City Hall.
