Five projects that will transform Chateauguay in 2019

Patricia Blackburn Translation Dan Rosenburg  pblackburn@gravitemedia.com  Several big projects under way or projected in 2019 will change the face of the City of Chateauguay. Here are a few of them:    1-TOD development project on the former Zellers site   The construction of a vast residential project of 546 dwellings should begin in 2019 on the site of the former Zellers building, which was demolished in the fall of 2018. The Habitation Trigone construction company, the owner of the land, plans to erect two first buildings on the axis of land which passes alongside St. Francis Blvd. A first building from four to six floors will contain 166 units of rental housing.  A second, four storeys high, will include 53 units of condos. The delivery date for the first phase is scheduled for the summer of 2019. The second phase of development (three supplementary buildings) will begin subsequently. It consists of a TOD (Transit Oriented Development) project evaluated at about $125 million.    2-Renovation of Industrial Blvd.  The renovation worksite on Industrial Blvd. should also be starting in 2019. Evaluated at about $20 million, the project will be produced in two phases (from St Jean-Baptiste Blvd. to Pascal street, and from Pascal street to Autoroute 30). The improvements forecast include a four-lane boulevard, the laying out of a multi-functional bicycle path, a canalized rainwater system and a landscaped installation, among other things.    3-Realignment of Industrial and St. Francis Blvds.  The City of Chateauguay wishes to benefit from the Industrial Blvd. worksite to realign the latter with St. Francis Blvd. The project, evaluated at an estimated $4 million, is inscribed in the City’s immobilization triennial role for 2019.     4-Opening of new specialized school  The worksite of the new regional specialized school on Sutterlin Blvd. should be completed in August of 2019, or in time for the autumn return to school. The school will welcome handicapped pupils, aged 4-21; preschool level pupils, and primary and secondary students showing a profound intellectual deficiency or from average to severe deficiency with associated problems. The project represents an investment of $28 million, assumed by the Education Ministry. It is the fruit of an alliance between the Grandes-Seigneuries School Board and the New Frontiers School Board.   5-Renovation of Chateauguay Regional Shopping Centre and opening of new names  The project of ‘’redevelopment’’ of the Chateauguay Regional Shopping Centre, begun at the end of 2018 with the demolition of the former building which housed Tutti Frutti and the advent of the Buzzfit physical conditioning centre, should continue in 2019. The repairs to the front of the commercial centre and the layout of four detached buildings in the parking lot are among other projects planned. The arrival of new names, including Chocolats Favoris and Allo Mon Coco, has been announced by the Quint Group, one of the owners of the Centre.    Other projects  The skatepark situated at the Chateauguay Maison des Jeunes could undergo a rejuvenation. Without changing the face of the City, this $550,000 project, inscribed in the immobilization triennial role for 2019, should make for some happy people if it gets done. One million dollars is also inscribed in the budget for the purpose of repairs, renovation and acquisition of equipment for parks and green spaces Other infrastructure projects, including thorough repairs of Craik street ( a $3.3 million project), are forecast on the 2019 agenda.
