Défilé de la Saint-Patrick : Shaunessa Boyle-Giuliani accède au trône à son 3e essai

(English follows) Shaunessa Boyle-Giuliani est la reine du défilé de la Saint-Patrick prévu le dimanche 25 mars à Châteauguay. Elle a accédé au trône à sa troisième tentative. Sa majesté a été sélectionnée lors d’un concours où les aspirantes devaient témoigner de leurs connaissances de la culture irlandaise, le 10 février, au club 55 + à Châteauguay. «Nous avons eu une bonne assistance, des juges incroyables et des candidates inspirantes», fait part Amy Lynn Waugh, de l’Association Héritage Irlandais Châteauguay et Vallée, qui organise le défilé en collaboration avec la Ville. Jeremy White, de The Beat 92,5, Elizabeth Quinn, Grand Marshal du défilé de la Saint-Patrick à Montréal, et Joyce Shanahan, mère de la députée de Châteauguay-Lacolle Brenda Shanahan, composaient le jury. Shanessa Boyle-Giuliani y participait pour une troisième année et ce fut la bonne. Dans un courriel bilingue, la lauréate raconte son expérience. «Il y a deux ans, mon oncle m'a envoyé la publicité pour la soirée de la ‘United Irish Society: Queen Selection’ à Montréal. Il m'a dit de sauter sur la chance de compétitionner et je pensais à l'origine «je ne peux pas me lever et parler devant tous ces gens». Mais j'ai saisi l'occasion et j'ai eu l'occasion de me mettre au défi et de m’éduquer moi-même sur mon patrimoine irlandais. À partir de ce moment, j'ai continué à participer aux soirées de sélection des reines de la Montreal United Irish Society ainsi qu'à la soirée de sélection des reines de Chateauguay Valley Irish Heritage Association (CVIHA)», relate-t-elle. Qu’est-ce que son couronnement représente pour la jeune femme de Châteauguay ? «Cette expérience me donne l'occasion de devenir plus familière avec mon patrimoine irlandais, de représenter ma ville natale et celle de ma famille et de me donner l'occasion de redonner à ma communauté, exprime-t-elle. Dans tout cela, c'est un plus grand honneur de rencontrer des gens aussi merveilleux et d'être un modèle pour les enfants, d'origine irlandaise et ceux qui viennent nous soutenir dans le défilé. Je suis excitée de voir ce que le reste de cette aventure a en réserve pour moi et les princesses.» Shaunessa Boyle-Giuliani est entourée des princesses Emma-Rose Alie Magill, Kathleen Davidson et Michaela McGinn. Train du Tigre Géant Le train du Tigre Géant figure parmi les nouveautés à cette 14^e édition du défilé de la Saint-Patrick à Châteauguay. Les élèves de l’école St-Willibrord y interpréteront leur hymne trilingue, anglais, français et mohawk. Brendan Glenane en sera le Grand marshall, Shirley Deegan, l’officière en chef pour la revue, Henry Gagnon, le président, Michael McGinn, le vice-président, Marlene Demers, la directrice, alors que Gail Cooney et Glen Raimondo forment le couple irlandais de l’année. Le trajet Le vert cortège partira de l’intersection du boulevard D’Anjou et de la rue Yvon vers 13h. Il empruntera le boulevard D’Anjou jusqu’au boulevard Maple, dans lequel il s’engagera pour terminer son parcours à l’école secondaire H. S. Billings, rue McLeod. Pour l’occasion, plusieurs rues du secteur seront fermées une partie de la journée, dont le boulevard D’Anjou, entre les boulevards Saint-Jean-Baptiste et Maple, de 11h30 à 15h.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade : Crowned on her third try

(Translation Dan Rosenburg) Shaunessa Boyle-Giuliani is the Queen of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade set for Sunday, March 25 in Chateauguay. She gained access to the throne in her third attempt. Her Majesty was selected during a contest where the aspirants had to give evidence of their knowledge of the Irish culture on February 10 at the Queen’s Pageant at the Chateauguay 55-plus Centre.’’We had a good attendance with incredible judges and inspiring candidates,’’ said Amy Lynn Waugh of the Chateauguay and Valley Irish Heritage Association, which is organizing the parade in conjunction with the City. Jeremy White of The Beat 92.5 radio; Elizabeth Quinn, Grand Marshal of the Montreal St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and Joyce Shanahan, mother of Chateauguay MP Brenda Shanahan, served on the panel of judges. Boyle-Giuliani participated in it for the third year and this time she was successful. In a bilingual e-mail, the queen summarized her experience. ‘’Two years ago, my uncle sent me the advertisement for the United Irish Society: Queen Selection night in Montreal. He told me to leap on the chance of competing and I originally thought ‘there is no way I can stand and speak in front of all those people.’ But, I took the chance and looked on it as an opportunity to challenge myself and educate myself on my Irish Heritage. From that moment, I continued to participate in the Montreal United Irish Society’s queen selection night, as well as the Chateauguay Valley Irish Heritage Associate (CVIHA) Queen selection night,’’ she relates. What does her crowning represent for the young Chateauguay woman?  «I was so honoured  to be selected as Queen of the Chateauguay St. Patrick’s Day parade. This experience is giving me the opportunity to become more involved with my Irish Heritage, represent my and my family’s hometown, and give myself an opportunity to give back to my community. Besides all of this, it is a greater honour to meet such wonderful  people and be a role model for the children of Irish descent and those who  come support us in the parade. I am excited to see what the rest of this adventure has in store for myself and the girls that are a part of my court.’’ Giant Tiger train The Giant Tiger train figures among the innovations in this 14th edition of the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Chateauguay. Pupils from St. Willibrord School will interpret their trilingual hymn in English, French and Mohawk. ‘’During the Queen and Her Court Pageant we also have our parade dignitaries. This year’s parade Grand Marshal is Brendan Glenane. This year’s Irish Couple are Gail Cooney and Glen Raimondo. Our Chief Reviewing Officer for the 2018 parade is Shirley Deegan, a long- time Chateauguay and Valley Irish Heritage Association member. Our President this year is Henry Gagnon, and our Vice-President is Michael McGinn,’’says Amy Lynn Waugh. Parade Directors is Marlene Demers. The route The green cortege will leave from the intersection of D’Anjou Blvd. and Yvon street at about 1 p.m. It will take D’Anjou until Maple Blvd., and will finish its course at Howard S. Billings High School on McLeod street. For the occasion, several streets in that sector will be closed for part of the day. That includes D’Anjou Blvd., between St. Jean Baptiste and Maple Blvds.
