Des élèves célèbrent la culture autochtone

(English follows) Les élèves de l’école primaire St-Willibrord de la Commission scolaire New Frontiers à Châteauguay en ont vu de toutes les couleurs, le vendredi 3 mai, lors d’une journée spéciale qui célébrait les racines autochtones de certains écoliers. Cette initiative a été mise sur pied cette année dans un esprit de réconciliation et de sensibilisation aux autres cultures. Près du tiers de la population de l’établissement provient de Kahnawake, selon Caroline Bouchard, professeure. Tout au long de la matinée, des ateliers d’apprentissage sur la culture mohawk étaient au programme. En après-midi, des danseurs et chanteurs de la famille mohawk Ray Deer ainsi que les Buffalo Hat Singers ont animé le gymnase de l’école. St. Willibrord pupils fete aboriginal culture Translation Dan Rosenburg The pupils of St. Willibrord Elementary School of the New Frontiers School Board in Chateauguay saw both sides of the coin on Friday, May 3 at a special day which celebrated the aboriginal roots of certain students. This initiative was put in motion this year in a spirit of reconciliation and sensibility towards other cultures. Nearly one-third of the school population come from Kahnawake, according to teacher Caroline Bouchard. During the morning, workshops of apprenticeship on the Mohawk culture were on the program. In the afternoon, dancers and singers from the Mohawk family of Ray Deer and the Buffalo Hat Singers, animated the school gym.
