The two buddies, both graduates of Howard S. Billings High School, are proposing a BMX bicycle competition for youngsters under 18, starting at noon. A professional demonstration by Lloyd and other pros will follow at 2 p.m. Registration is at 11 a.m. Proceeds from the day will be given to Chateauguay’s Maison des Jeunes to purchase some BMX bicycles. These will be lent free of charge to bike riders who will be able to use them in the skatepark, next door to the youth centre.
‘’We want to encourage and facilitate access to a healthy way of life. Our goal is to provide access to less fortunate children from our community the chance to find new passions,’’ explains Matteau. ‘’We want to do something to give back to the community,’’ stressed the young man who is now an accountancy and finance student at Concordia University.
Several door prizes will be distributed to participants. Of that number, three will be invited to show their talent with the pros. ‘’We thought of something that we would have liked,’’ Matteau noted.
A pro at 16
Born and raised in Châteauguay, Lloyd became a BMX professional at the age of 16. The sport took him all over the world. His prowesses made the headlines of several BMX international publications, such as Transworld and DigBMX. He wants to be a role-model for youngsters of the region.
