(English follows). (English version). Chateauguay elections : Citizens' Action relies on REM extension Mayoress Nathalie Simon's party does not believe that the commuter train is still a feasible option. Instead the party is depending on an eventual extension of the REM (Metropolitan Electric Network) along Autoroute 30 to diversify the public transport offered in the region. «The option of bringing the commuter train to Chateauguay is no longer feasible since at least a dozen years ago, » indicates Simon, the Citizens' Action Party chief. « To promise its return would be completely irresponsible. One must remember that the train tracks have been dismantled and the land is being used for other purposes in Kahnawake. In addition, a commuter train demands the laying out of a train station with a parking lot and a feeder bus service, and there is no space possible for such infrastructures along the train tracks, «  she explains in an August 24 communique. Inscribed in MRC plan The extension of the caisse de depot (Quebec Pension Plan manager) train along Autoroute 30 up to the Anna Laberge Hospital would be already inscribed in the new regional layout outline of the MRC, according to Simon. Moreover, she says the MRC has already benefited « from all the occasions to promote the project, » and she promises to continue to militate in that direction. Local transport Simon also proposes a reform of Chateauguay interior transport, « in order to optimize the shuttle system that will serve the various districts. » Besides that, she promises to respond to the wish of numerous citizens by seeing to a development of public transport service in the East/West axis of the island of Montreal, as well as towards the sectors of Brossard and Valleyfield. In the shorter term, she says she wants to depend on the construction of a bus terminal surrounding the MTA (Metropoloitan Transport Agency) parking lot. (Translation Dan Rosenburg)
