Des Mohawks ont manifesté à Kahnawake

(English follows)Des Mohawks de Kahnawake ont manifesté pendant plusieurs jours sur un terrain longeant la route 132 contre la construction d’un immeuble multifonctionnel dans un secteur boisé. Cet édifice abriterait le centre culturel de Kahnawake. Le centre culturel de Kahnawake travaille sur un projet de construction d’un bâtiment multifonctionnel pour relocaliser ses bureaux. L’immeuble inclurait le centre culturel, un théâtre et un musée. L’organisme s’intéresse à un terrain  boisé situé entre le pont Mercier et l’école Kahnawake Survival School. Le centre culturel doit réaliser une étude de faisabilité et une étude géotechnique du site d’ici le 30 juin dans le but d’obtenir des fonds pour construire l’immeuble. Des membres de la communauté autochtone s’opposent au choix du site convoité car cela impliquera de couper de nombreux arbres dans le boisé. Le conseil de bande appuie les démarches du centre culturel. The building would include the cultural centre, a theatre and a museum. The organization is interested in a wooded stretch of land situated between the Mercier Bridge and the Kahnawake Survival School. The cultural centre must produce a feasibility study and a geotechnical study of the site between now and June 30 in the goal of obtaining funds to construct the building. Some members of the aboriginal community are opposed to the choice of the desired site because it will involve cutting down a number of trees in the wooded area.
