The City of Léry Has Temporarily Limited Automobiles’ Access to a Portion of Chemin Lac-Saint-Louis in Order to Provide Better Security for Pedestrians and Cyclists. Translation courtesy Amanda Bennette Panels to that effect are blocking access to the bridge between the community and Châteauguay at the height of Ruisseau Saint-Jean. The local traffic notice applies from that point to Presqu’île Asselin, where other panels also display the local traffic only notice. “During the COVID-19 pandemic and ‘social distancing’, the narrow path of Chemin Lac-Saint-Louis has become increasingly popular. There are numerous residents who go there to make their walk more interesting and slightly more uplifting, both mentally and in terms of morale”, explained Dale Stewart, the city’s Director General. “Mayor Walter Letham and the city council have requested the temporary closure of the Ruisseau Saint-Jean Bridge to limit traffic. This directive only applies to vehicles in an effort to protect pedestrians and cyclists to the best possible extent”, he specified. The city also “asked police to increase their patrols to ensure that drivers and cyclists respect the 30 km/hr speed limit so that pedestrians on Chemin Lac-Saint-Louis feel completely safe”. With the exception of Chemin Lac-Saint-Louis, there are no areas or roads with restrictions at this time.
