MCK officially activates COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to advise the community that Chief & Council has officially approved the activation of the Emergency Operations Office, known as the COVID-19 Task Force (“The Task Force”), at today’s dulyconvened Council meeting. The Mohawk Council Executive Directive was passed by consensus by the eleven Council members present (five in person, six via teleconference due to being in self-isolation protocol). The Task Force has been given the full and necessary authority to mitigate all impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the community, in accordance with section 14 of the Kahnawà:ke Emergency Preparedness Law, and in conjunction with the Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre. “The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is taking seriously its responsibility as a governing body to take all measures to secure the health and safety of all Kahnawa’kehró:non,” said Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton.” This mandate is effective immediately, will remain in place for 30 days, and is subject to extension, if necessary.
