Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, and Brenda Shanahan, the Liberal Candidate for the Châteauguay-Lacolle riding, visited Thibert in Châteauguay on August 26, 2021, to discuss the post-pandemic economic recovery with company President Christian Thibert.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have been very present for our entrepreneurs and workers,” said Ms. Joly about the Liberal Party of Canada at the outset.

According to her, companies like this car parts distributor were able to benefit from federal government assistance to retain and pay their employees, while having access to enough funding to mitigate the financial damage incurred during these troubled times.

“Christian Thibert reminded us that thanks to the wage subsidy, he was able to get through the first confinement period in 2020 without too much difficulty,” the minister added.

The local candidate and incumbent MP Brenda Shanahan only had positive words about how the region’s business people were able to manage pandemic uncertainties. In particular she lauded companies’ ability to adapt and innovate as they faced a completely unstable situation.

“I am very pleased to see how employers from this region were able to quickly react to the situation,” she declared.

Ms. Joly, like her colleague, believes that the Liberal Party has done good work for the economy throughout pandemic and states that the Liberal government wants to be present, more than ever before, during the country’s economic recovery.

“It’s why Brenda and I came here. We wanted to hear the opinions of one of the region’s major entrepreneurs, to learn about their vision for the future in terms their projects and challenges,” explained Mélanie Joly.

The morning concluded with a visit of the premises where the Liberal politicians were able to meet with workers in the company’s warehouse and offices.
