An entrepreneur in Châteauguay’s Industrial Park wonders whether theft is up in this sector after having fallen victim to a series of criminal acts at the beginning of April. Mike Deveau has had more than enough of having his equipment stolen by criminals.

“We’re fed up, there is so much theft right now, it’s incredible. On my property on Industrial Boulevard, I had a large 32-foot scuba diving pontoon taken on April 1st,” lamented Mike Deveau, a Châteauguay firefighter and owner of the Canada Ponton company.

According to Mr. Deveau, the thieves stole a Ford F-350 truck nearby on Pierre Boursier Boulevard and they used it to transport the pontoon.

“That’s not all- on the same lot as mine thieves also took two closed trailers, two catalytic converters from my trucks and other trailers were stolen on Pierre Boursier and Ford boulevards,” he explained.

According to figures provided by the Châteauguay Police Department, there were two trailer thefts from Industrial Park in January of this year, and another five in February alone. No thefts have been reported in March, however, explained Officer Nadia Grondin.

At City Council Meeting

For the businessman, who has filed two complaints with City Council, it is clear that cases of theft are on the rise in this sector of the municipality. The Châteauguay Police Department, for its part, did not step forward to confirm that assertion.

Call for Vigilance

Far from reassured, the entrepreneur affirmed having even been approached by a private security company for them to conduct rounds in that sector on the city.

The fact that Industrial Park is located on the edge of Highway 30 makes easy work for thieves, according to Mr. Deveau, as they are able to flee quickly. “I was finally able to locate my pontoon thanks to an embedded microchip. It had travelled to Wickham and the stolen pickup was found in Saint-Hyacinthe,” he stated.
