Premier pas en vue de la construction d’une nouvelle partie du pont Mercier

(English follows) Un premier contrat vient d’être octroyé par le ministère des Transports du Québec dans le projet de construction d’une nouvelle section du pont Honoré-Mercier. La firme d’ingénierie WSP Canada inc. a obtenu à la suite d’un appel d’offres le contrat pour réaliser une étude biophysique du milieu du secteur du pont Honoré-Mercier, entre Montréal et Kahnawake. Un contrat d’une valeur de 35 000$ (taxes non incluses). «Il s’agit bien du premier contrat accordé dans le projet de construction du nouveau pont, a confirmé Martin Girard, porte-parole pour le MTQ. Mais c’est encore très préliminaire. Le projet suivra son cours par la suite, mais nous n’avons encore aucune date à annoncer par rapport à l’échéancier», dit-il. Cette «caractérisation du milieu» servira à analyser les éléments biophysiques du secteur, comme la faune et la flore, afin de préparer les plans par la suite. Québec a annoncé, en avril 2017, que la plus vieille partie du pont Honoré-Mercier, qui a été construite en 1934, sera remplacée par une nouvelle section en direction de la Rive-Sud. Celle-ci sera construite en parallèle avec l’axe actuel. La date du début des travaux n’a pas été déterminée, mais le gouvernement prévoit attendre 2019, après la fin de la construction du corridor Champlain.

First step towards construction of new Mercier Bridge section

A first contract has just been granted by the Quebec Transport Ministry in the construction project of a new section of the Mercier Bridge. The WSP Canada Ltd. Engineering firm following a call for bids has obtained the contract to produce a biophysics study of the milieu of the Mercier Bridge sector, between Montreal and Kahnawake. The contract is valued at $35,000, plus taxes. ‘’It indeed consists of the first contract granted in the construction project of the new bridge,’’ confirmed MTQ spokesman Martin Girard.’’ But it is still in a very preliminary stage. The project will then follow its course, but we do not yet have a date to announce in regards to the time line,’’ he said. This ‘’characterization of the milieu’’ will serve to analyze the biophysics elements of the sector, such as the fauna and the flora, in order to prepare the plans next. Quebec announced in April of 2017 that the oldest part of the Mercier Bridge, which was built in 1934, will be replaced by a new section in the South Shore direction. This will be constructed parallel to the actual axis. The date of the beginning of the works has not yet been determined, but the government foresees waiting until 2019, after the end of construction of the Champlain corridor. (Translation Dan Rosenburg)
