Lovers of Irish tradition can rejoice: Châteauguay’s Saint-Patrick’s Day parade will be back on March 27th after a two-year absence.

The Châteauguay and Valley Irish Heritage Association, which organizes the event, obtained a $6,000 budget from the City of Châteauguay.

"Normally, we don’t ask [the City for money] but most of our sponsors tell us they don’t have the means to help us this year", explained the association’s president, Michael McGinn, in an interview with Le Soleil in early February.

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the region’s business community, which usually provides financial support to the project. Before the pandemic, the association could raise about $18,000 for each parade, McGinn said.

While details on how the event will unfold have yet to be confirmed, the president of the association said he has received “very positive responses” from the community so far.

Fundraising events should be announced by the committee in the coming days.

More information to come.
