The City of Châteauguay has imposed a speed limit of 20 km/h on its multipurpose trails.

The term “bike path” is no longer used in municipal regulations since 2022. It has been replaced by “multipurpose path,” as these spaces can be used by several types of non-motorized transportation, such as bicycles, walking, skateboarding, rollerblading, as well as bicycles and wheelchairs equipped with electric motors and three-wheeled and four-wheeled scooters.
The municipality's sustainable mobility committee recommended that the council limit the speed to 20 km/h to ensure safety for all modes of transportation.
Anyone who violates the bylaw is liable to a fine of $60 to $120.
