Un parent trouve de la drogue devant une école à Châteauguay

(English follows) FAITS DIVERS. Une mère de famille a trouvé un sachet de drogue, par terre, devant de l’école primaire anglophone Saint-Willibrord à Châteauguay, le lundi 11 septembre.

«La substance fut testée au service de police de Châteauguay et s’avère être de la famille des amphétamines. Il s’agit d’un événement isolé», indique la porte-parole Nathalie Langevin du service de police de Châteauguay. L’information a circulé sur les médias sociaux qu’il s’agirait de crystal meth. La police de Châteauguay n’est pas en mesure de confirmer cette information.

Barbara Jarvis, mère de trois garçons qui ne fréquentent pas cette école, est allée porter la substance au bureau de la police, le mardi 12 septembre. Elle ne se sent pas du tout en sécurité après cette fâcheuse découverte. Cette dernière croit que les parents doivent rappeler à leur enfant de ne jamais ramasser ce genre de petit sac au sol. « Je suis malade à l’idée de ce qui aurait pu arriver si ce n’était pas moi qui l’avait trouvé. Même si c’est une petite quantité, c’est assez pour tuer un enfant», illustre-t-elle.

Selon Mme Langevin, la dame a fait ce que doit faire tout citoyen c’est-à-dire de rapporter l’événement le plus rapidement possible. Les agents sociocommunautaires du service de police ont assuré une communication avec les personnes en autorité à l’école et à la commission scolaire, précise-t-elle.

La Commission scolaire est sensible à l’incident

La Commission scolaire New Frontiers a publié un statut Facebook pour expliquer la situation et rassurer les parents que la police avait pris les choses en main. Un bref rappel de rapporter des substances illicites aux autorités a aussi été effectué, le mardi 12 septembre. La direction générale de la commission scolaire affirme que des programmes de sensibilisation dans les écoles secondaire sont en place. Des partenariats avec des organismes qui aident les étudiants en crise permettent d’offrir un soutien aux élèves en cas de besoin. Dans les écoles primaires, le sujet est traité surtout dans la classe de santé.

Chateauguay police were not in a position to confirm that information. 

Barbara Jarvis, the mother of three boys who do not attend that school, went to bring the substance to the police station the following day. She did not at all feel secure after this unfortunate discovery. She believes that parents must remind their children to never pick up this type of bag off the ground. « I am sick at the idea of what could have happened if it hadn't been me who had found it. Even if it is a small quantity, it's enough to kill a child, » she deplored. 

According to the policewoman, the lady did what all citizens must do in such a case; that is to report the incident as quickly as possible. The police department's socio-community agents have assured communication with the people in authority at the school and at the New Frontiers School Board, Langevin said. 

New Frontiers School Board sensitive to incident

The New Frontiers School Board has published a Facebook status to explain the situation and reassure parents that the Chateauguay police have taken things in hand. A brief reminder to report illicit substances to the authorities has also been issued on Tuesday, September 12. The director general of the school board affirms that some sensitization programs in the board’s high schools are in place. Some partnerships with certain groups that help students in crisis enables them to offer support to students in case of need. In the elementary schools, the subject is treated, especially in hygiene classes.
