One step towards new bus terminal

The City of Chateauguay has proceeded with decontamination and demolition works at 46 St. Jean-Baptiste Blvd., on a lot designated for the exo bus terminus project. Chateauguay acquired this land in August of 2016, in the goal of reselling it to the transportation society when the rehabilitation works are completed. The location, which housed the former Audio-Video Quebec enterprise, is adjacent to the current exo incentive (formerly AMT) parking lot. The City has invested close to $1 million in this project ($775,000 for the land, $209,110 for the decontamination and demolition of the converted building which is found there.) Terminal still under study  The construction deadline of the new terminal is not yet known. ‘’The project is still the object of studies linked to the remodelling of collective transport services foreseen for all of the South-West and Haut-St. Laurent sectors,’’ specifies exo media relations advisor Catherine Maurice. The latter adds that several scenarios are still being looked at. And that exo is working ‘’in collaboration with the municipal partners in order to fine-tune the project to the best interests of our clientele and Chateauguay citizens,’’ she says. Moreover, the City had also asked exo last August about the possibility of building a two-storey parking lot to diminish the asphalted surface. It is a proposition that exo had said it would study, among other things. Ticket booth, waiting room, arrival platform The initial project, which still has not been confirmed, foresaw the construction of a two-storey terminus with a relaxation area and a service centre. There was also question of a refitting of the departure docks and the bus loop. The addition of parking spaces was also in the plans. As of now, the Chateauguay incentive parking lot numbers 634 places. (Translation Dan Rosenburg)
