A woman in her 20s was injured by a bullet on the evening of Monday, June 22 in Chateauguay.  “Her condition is stable and we don’t fear for her life,” said Surete du Quebec information agent Stephane Tremblay the next day. Chateauguay police were alerted at about 11:30 p.m. on June 22 regarding a person injured on Marc Laplante street. It consisted of a woman hit by a gun’s projectile, Tremblay indicated. He confirmed that several gunshots had been fired. Three damaged vehicles were found at the site. There had been an altercation between some people but the circumstances were not immediately known, the SQ spokesman indicated. Two “important” witnesses had been met by police. They had been intercepted in Kahnawake, “but there had been no car-chase,” Tremblay specified. Marc Laplante street had been closed for early 24 hours between St. Joseph Blvd. and Lajoie street following the events. Investigators from the SQ Major Crimes squad passed through the scene with a fine-tooth comb and were searching for eye-witnesses. Ballistics experts and a police-dog also participated in the operation, among others. The investigation was continuing at the moment this story went to press last Thursday. No arrest had yet been made and the SQ was not in position to provide more details such as the place of residence of the injured woman. (Translation Dan Rosenburg)
