The City of Châteauguay has lifted its watering ban thanks to heavy rains in recent days. Since May 18th, the activity had only been allowed for 11 days.

The use of a watering system with removable or automatic devices is now permitted between 9 p.m. and midnight. This includes oscillating sprinklers and soaker hoses. Residences with an even civic number can water on Mondays and those with an odd street number on Tuesdays.

Manual watering, including with a hose, is permitted at all times.

Also, existing swimming pools and spas can now be filled between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Even-numbered homes can water on Wednesdays, and those with an odd civic number on Fridays.

New pools or spas can be filled during its installation only.

In addition, residents can wash their cars “as long as water is used responsibly,” the City of Châteauguay said via press release.

The municipality recommends that people favour the use of rainwater collection containers when it comes to watering landscaping arrangements. “This is a great initiative to save on drinking water and avoid the overuse of water for non-essential purposes,” the City stated.

Citizens who wish to install new sod on their property can do so by applying for a free 10-day permit. They have to contact the Inspection and permit division at 450-698-3260.

Notice ends in Sainte-Martine and Mercier

The municipalities of Sainte-Martine and Mercier, which receive drinking water from Châteauguay, have also lifted their watering ban notices.

In Mercier, automatic watering or using a sprinkler without a shutoff device is only permitted on Wednesdays from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. for homes with an even civic number. On Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., it’s the turn of odd-numbered homes.

The City of Mercier reminds residents they’re only allowed to fill in their pool in the spring, and that they can only wash their car when using a bucket or a hose with an automatic shutoff device.
