The City of Châteauguay is organizing a public meeting on Thursday, April 14th at 7 pm, about the construction of a 20-unit residential building on the site of a former motel on Principale Street in Châteauguay. Citizens who would like to learn more or be heard on the topic can/should make their way to the Pavillon de l’île, on Île Saint-Bernard.

To authorize the construction of a three-storey building with 20 units at this location, the city needs to complete a specific process to construct, modify or occupy a building and citizens will have their say on the topic.

At the March council meeting, district councillor François Le Borgne expressed his opposition to the regulation changes, noting that Principale had lost its commercial vocation to several residential real-estate projects. “We do not have a plan for Principale Street. It’s urgent that we make one,” he expressed.

To which Mayor Eric Allard replied that the building in question will resemble to what has been built around it and will blend in with its surroundings. He added that the city would like to promote the commercial sector on Principale, but that this residential project has been on the table for a long time.

The public notice project for the project is available on the city’s website.
