On March 24, the City of Châteauguay and the Association Héritage irlandais Châteauguay & Vallée are inviting Irish people of “stock and heart” to celebrate St Patrick’s Day at their first Châteauguay Irish Festival.

The parade will not take place on boulevard D’Anjou, as has been the tradition for several years. It will be shorter, starting at the intersection of Mitchell and Massey streets at 1 p.m. and proceeding to the Agora via Maple Boulevard and Mercier Street.

From 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., participants at the Agora will be able to celebrate Irish culture through history, music, dance and culinary traditions. Participants “will be able to attend musical performances, including a bagpipe concert, as well as Irish dance shows,” said the city in a press release.

Visitors will also be able to sample typical Irish dishes.

All activities are free, except for certain dishes, which will be subject to a charge, Châteauguay points out.

Streets Closed

The procession of honour will close certain streets to traffic, except for emergency vehicles, from 12:45 p.m. Traffic will be allowed on the following streets from 1:30 p.m.

  • —Massey Street: from Mitchell Street to McLeod Street;
  • —rue McLeod: rue Massey to boulevard, Maple;
  • —Maple Boulevard: between the rotunda and the Bibliothèque Raymond-Laberge;
  • —rue Mercier: between boulevard Maple and rue Royale.
